Cheap cost makes ferry travel 'popular' | | | | 05 August 2008 | With the credit crunch impacting on many families this year, travelling by ferry is set to prove popular as it can be much cheaper than other methods of transport.
Families can save money by ditching the airlines and opting instead to get to their destination by boat, one expert has said.
An increase in taking holidays closer to home also means that more families may choose car and ferry holidays over air travel, Lucy Ace of Take the Family has said.
She added: "My children are always so excited about the prospect of a holiday that it really wouldn't matter how we got there, but the ferry is definitely an exciting option for them.
"They are at the age where they don't even mind if it rains, in fact that is an added bonus as they can jump in puddles."
Figures released in 2007 by the Dover Harbour Board showed that the number of cars using the port's services to Calais, Dunkerque and Boulogne had grown on the previous year. |
