Cheap ferries attracting holidaymakers | | | | 18 August 2008 | ferry operators are keeping prices low in an attempt to take advantage of growing air fares, according to a report in the Times newspaper.
The publication says that a number of ferry operators are now offering cheap summer deals which are expected to be popular among holidaymakers.
It cites several companies which are working to attract more passengers with low fares and onboard attractions including P&O Ferries and Brittany Ferries.
According to the newspaper, ferry companies have been able to save money by cutting schedules or making their ferry services slower to ensure fuel price increases are not reflected in ticket costs.
"For that reason, there's still some great deals around if you're thinking of taking a last-minute break," Ginny McGrath and Katherine Adams who wrote the article stated.
Onboard features such as Wi-Fi and cinemas were also being marketed to try to tempt more passengers to take to the seas.
Environmentally-conscious holidaymakers are also believed to be opting for ferry crossings as it is a greener way to reach their destination. |
