Booking cheap ferries to Brittany will allow British holidaymakers to explore La Cote D'Amour, a coastline boasting white sandy beaches, excellent restaurants and pretty villages.
This is the opinion of the New Zealand Herald's Betty Chetwynd, who wrote that, after taking a Brittany ferry, you are "bound to fall in love" with the region.
She recommends driving to the Guerande peninsula and the nearby towns of La Baule, Le Croisic and Le Puliguen, with La Baule's beach having a reputation as one of the best in Europe.
"But what makes La Baule even more appealing is the juxtaposition of the Bondi-like beach with its quaint old village, markets, boutiques and narrow streets," Ms Chetwynd wrote in the newspaper.
"La Baule is more of a local's holiday spot, and with few non-French-speaking voices to be heard, you feel, justifiably, that you've discovered something new."
One of the most appealing aspect of La Cote D'Amour, Ms Chetwynd went on to say, is that it hasn't suffered "mass tourist invasions" in the way the French Riviera has.
Brittany Ferries operates a number of cross channel ferries from Plymouth, Poole and Portsmouth. Its destinations in France include Roscoff, Cherbourg, St Malo and Caen.
