Travellers will be treated to some memorable entertainment during Belgium ferry breaks next month when the country hosts the Binche Carnival.
The event will take place in the medieval town of Binche in southern Belgium from February 14th to 16th.
People based in northern England can reach the country via the Hull to Zeebrugge ferry route, which is served by P&O Ferries, or by taking ferries to Zeebrugge from Rosyth with
Norfolkline.
Those in the south can use
TransEuropa Ferries' Ramsgate to Ostend ferry service.
Held every year in the three days preceding Lent, the Binche Carnival sees masked revellers head out onto the town's streets along with local bands to take part in a procession.
At the centre of the celebrations is Gilles, a character who represents the carnival and the town of Binche.
The event gets underway when Gilles is ceremonially dressed while drums are played.
As one of the oldest traditions of its kind in Europe, the Binche Carnival features on the Unesco World Heritage list.
People who are interested in visiting Belgium also have the option of taking ferries to Calais from Dover with P&O Ferries or
Seafrance and driving across the border.
