Condor Ferries adds fast craft to fleet

Condor Ferries, the leading provider of ferries to the Channel Islands, has announced the addition of a wave-piercing fast craft to its fleet.

The Condor Rapide, which is described as a "younger sister" to the Condor Vitesse and Express vessels, is currently based at Weymouth ferry port.

Once the ship has been prepared for service in Condor Ferries' livery, she will be deployed on the company's St Malo ferry services from Jersey and Guernsey.

Scheduled to begin operating in late May, the Condor Rapide will replace Condor 10, which has been sailing since 1993.

The new ship formerly served with the Royal Australian Navy as part of an international peacekeeping taskforce in East Timor.

Simon Edsall, managing director of Condor Ferries, said: "Our investment in Condor Rapide demonstrates belief in our business and confidence as a major ferry operator in the western part of the English Channel.

"She is in excellent condition, her previous owners have invested a seven-figure sum in upgrades and Condor Ferries will spend further substantial sums in the coming months to ensure she meets the highest standards."

Mr Edsall went on to say that the new ship will help the company meet extra demand that has resulted from the withdrawal of Brittany Ferries' Barfleur vessel from the Poole to Cherbourg ferry route earlier in the year.
