Condor Ferries has announced that it is doing its bit for the Channel Islands fishing trade by scheduling additional services on its Jersey to St Malo ferry route.
A total of five extra return sailings have been arranged to make it easier for local shellfish fishermen to transport their catch to France during the busy Christmas period.
The additional St Malo ferry crossings will operate on Thursdays in November and December.
Don Thompson, president of the Jersey Fishermen's Association, said the sailings will mean crab and lobster catches reach markets in Normandy and Brittany in "optimum condition".
Simon Esdall, managing director of
Condor Ferries, said the company is "very keen" to support local fishermen and Jersey exports.
He added: "We are also working hard to promote these sailings to Jersey residents who have additional opportunities to get away to the continent and are launching a special day trip offer which will enable locals to sample the delights of St Malo in the run up to Christmas at a very attractive price."
Brittany Ferries also operates a St Malo ferry route from Portsmouth, as well as ferries to Roscoff from Plymouth and Caen from Portsmouth.
