Condor Ferries has temporarily relocated its services from Weymouth to Poole while a structural investigation takes place at the former port.
In a statement, the operator said concerns over the structural integrity of a section of the ferry berth at Weymouth Port had been raised by both the company and the local council.
Sailings will therefore depart from Poole until Monday February 27th, with the firm now contacting passengers who will be affected by the change and helping them to alter their travel plans.
It has also promised to provide travellers with up-to-date information about the situation on its website.
Condor Ferries offers services to destinations such as Cherbourg, St Malo, Jersey and Guernsey, which is due to celebrate its Liberation Day on May 9th.
This annual event, which commemorates Guernsey's liberation from the German occupying forces in 1945, could tempt ferry passengers to visit the Channel Island this year.
