An increasing number of British couples are opting to set off across Europe and elsewhere for their weddings, according to the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba).
Spokesman Peter Staddon said that Brits are being discouraged from marrying at home by high costs and unpredictable weather.
"Many couples feel they are being taken for a ride in the UK and also that they cannot guarantee good British weather," he said.
With cheap travel available to a range of "superb locations" Mr Staddon said there is "an increase in overseas weddings".
The Biba spokesman also warned that people planning an overseas wedding will have a number of additional insurance factors to consider, such as unusually expensive items and the likelihood that guests will be drinking more than usual.
Commenting on particular destinations that are popular for weddings, Mr Staddon said that Mediterranean islands such as Sardinia and Mallorca are traditionally "seen as good locations".
A number of ferry companies operate in the Mediterranean, including SNAV, Balearia and Aegean Speed Lines.
