Cross channel ferry services have resumed today (April 16th) after French fishermen lifted their blockade of the port of Calais.
P&O Ferries was able to begin operating
ferries from Dover to Calais during the day after the protesters decided not to continue the blockade that had initially been lifted overnight.
Fishermen blocked ferry services into the ports of Calais, Dunkerque and Boulogne over a dispute related to EU fishing quotas.
They agreed to lift the blockade after receiving an offer of some 4 million (£3.5 million) in aid from the French government.
Ferries from Dover to Calais and Dunkerque have been resumed today but it has not yet been confirmed when the port of Boulogne, which is served by LD Lines from Dover, will be fully reopened.
Alternative cross channel travel options include the LD Lines Portsmouth to Le Havre ferry route and the Brittany Ferries service from Poole to Cherbourg.
