Passengers travelling on cross-channel ferries between Dover and Calais will be pleased to learn that a five-day strike by
SeaFrance has drawn to a close.
Members of the CFDT union began industrial action on Friday (April 2nd) following a dispute over job cuts, a measure the operator says it has been forced to take to avoid going out of business.
While an agreement between the union and reductions in pay and employee numbers has yet to be reached, it was decided to resume cross channel services at 08:15 BST yesterday (April 7th).
Tens of thousands of people were affected by the strike, with many being transferred to services operated by P&O Ferries following long waits.
The action is thought to have cost SeaFrance more than £1 million in what is traditionally one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
SeaFrance carried almost 3.8 million people in 2008 and has resumed operating almost 200 crossings between France and England every week.
