DFDS Seaways has recommended Amsterdam for travellers who are planning a break towards the end of the year.
The company described the Dutch capital as "the perfect autumnal destination", with plenty of cafes and bars to visit along the canals, as well as shops, museums and other indoor attractions for rainy days.
People interested in seeing the sights of the famous city can take
ferries from Newcastle to Amsterdam with DFDS Seaways.
During the journey, passengers can head to an onboard restaurant for a bite to eat, try their luck in the casino or enjoy some evening entertainment.
For those planning to extend their trip beyond Amsterdam, the ferry operator recommended the city of Haarlem, which is the capital of the province of North Holland.
The destination is home to a complex of narrow streets and canals for visitors to explore, alongside medieval houses and museums.
DFDS Seaways is not the only company that provides services to the Netherlands -
P&O offers regular
ferries from Hull to Rotterdam and
Stena Line operates
ferries from Harwich to Hook of Holland.
