DFDS Seaways has invited travellers to "step back in time" by taking a tour of the Ypres battlefields in Belgium, which were the site of bloody conflicts during World War I.
The company highlighted a number of monuments and memorials that provide an insight into the experiences endured by men and women fighting in the war.
People heading to Europe have the option of taking
ferries from Newcastle to Amsterdam with DFDS Seaways.
The operator's recent tie-up with
Norfolkline means that it also provides
ferries from Dover to Dunkerque in northern France.
Travellers interested in learning more about World War I can visit locations such as the Hill 62 Museum, which features the only preserved trenches on the western front.
DFDS Seaways highlighted several historic sites in the region, such as the German trenches at Bayernwald, the crypt at the church of Messines and Bedford House cemetery.
Holidaymakers can also reach Belgium with
P&O, which provides ferries from Hull to Zeebrugge, while
TransEuropa Ferries and
LD Lines serve the Ramsgate to Ostend ferry route.
