People based in northern England should take ferries to Amsterdam and visit Brussels to experience the city's magical Christmas market this year, according to
DFDS Seaways.
The company described the Belgian capital as a "stunning city" and said that its Christmas market on Place Sainte Catherine is "magnificent".
Travellers can catch daily ferries to Amsterdam from Newcastle with
DFDS Seaways and drive south through Holland and into Belgium to visit Brussels.
When they arrive in the city, visitors can head to Place Sainte Catherine to browse through the 240 wooden chalets that are set up in the square every Christmas, selling food, gifts and souvenirs.
The market is held in Brussels as part of the capital's Winter Wonders festival, which also features live musical entertainment, an illuminated big wheel and an ice skating rink.
DFDS Seaways pointed out that passengers sailing overnight on the Amsterdam ferry route will also be able to make use of the bars, restaurants and other facilities that are available onboard.
People planning a festive break this Christmas also have the option of travelling directly to Belgium, with ferries to Zeebrugge available from Rosyth with
Norfolkline and from Hull with P&O Ferries.
