DFDS Seaways has promoted the option of ferry travel for winter sports enthusiasts planning a trip to Europe over the coming months.
The operator pointed out that travelling to the continent by sea removes the stress of having to pay extra luggage charges at the airport and arranging car hire overseas.
An increasing number of winter sports travellers are using
DFDS Seaways' services, the company revealed, including one of north-east England's most promising young skiers.
Emma Peters will be using the company's Newcastle to Amsterdam ferry route next month on her way to compete in the English Alpine Championships, which will be held in Bormio, Italy.
She said: "It is so much easier to pack up your own car with everything that you need rather than being selective about the equipment and clothing that you try to squeeze into an already bulging suitcase.
"I have a number of ski competitions coming up in the future and I will certainly be using
DFDS Seaways to get to these."
People planning to visit France for a winter sports break can choose from a number of travel options, including
LD Lines' ferries to Boulogne from Dover and the Caen, Cherbourg and St Malo ferry routes operated by
Brittany Ferries from Portsmouth.
