DFDS Seaways has announced that a recent charity cruise raised over £8,000 for Children North East.
The company has been operating special services on its Newcastle to Amsterdam ferry route for the past three years to celebrate its anniversary.
Passengers donated the highest amount ever during this year's charity cruise, which marked the 143rd anniversary of
DFDS Seaways' founding.
Over 300 people travelled on the service on December 7th and 8th, each contributing £25, £35 or £50 to Children North East rather than paying for their crossing.
John Crummie, UK managing director of
DFDS Seaways, said: "The charity cruises have always been well received by our customers and this year has been the most successful yet.
"We are over the moon to be donating such a significant amount of money to Children North East to give them a helping hand in their fundraising efforts."
In addition to its Newcastle to Amsterdam ferry service,
DFDS Seaways operates ferries from Harwich to Esbjerg in Denmark.
