DFDS Seaways has encouraged families to look to Europe if they are considering a half-term break this month, with "plenty of options" available that offer fun and entertainment "without breaking the bank".
Travellers can catch
ferries from Newcastle to Amsterdam with DFDS Seaways to explore Artis Zoo, an attraction that can be reached by taking a scenic canal boat trip.
The zoo boasts an aquarium, botanical gardens, museums, big cat enclosures and a children's farm where visitors can stroke some of the animals.
Another option recommended by DFDS Seaways is sailing on ferries from Harwich to Esbjerg to visit the Legoland Billund resort.
The amusement park offers several attractions that children will love, including the new Pirate Lagoon area, a cinema that shows a Bob the Builder movie in 4D and the Frog Hopper ride.
DFDS Seaways offers daily
ferries from Newcastle to Amsterdam and four services a week on its Harwich to Esbjerg ferry route.
