DFDS Seaways to send giant red nose down the Tyne

DFDS Seaways to send giant red nose down the Tyne
Ferry operator DFDS Seaways will display what is thought to be a record-breaking red nose on the bow of one of its ships this week as part of an initiative to raise money for Comic Relief.

The company announced that it will be inflating a red nose with a diameter of six metres on one of its cruise ferries tomorrow (March 10th) in the run-up to Comic Relief's Red Nose Day on March 13th.

DFDS Seaways believes that the giant object is the biggest red nose ever created.

It will be displayed on the bow of the vessel King of Scandinavia, which will set off from the Newcastle ferry terminal and sail down the Tyne.

The ferry company will be running a series of fundraising initiatives this year, including a number of comedy cruises that will see £5 donated to Comic Relief for every booking received.

There will also be themed 'red nose cocktails' served onboard some DFDS Seaways ferry crossings, as well as a raffle and a money-raising 'dress down Friday' for staff based at the company's offices in North Shields.

Comic Relief has raised more than £600 million for charity since it was founded in 1985.
