DFDS Seaways has announced that its passengers can now travel with their pets on ferry crossings from Newcastle to Amsterdam and from Harwich to Esbjerg.
Dog owners are expected to make the most use of the new option, although it is also possible for travellers to bring cats, hamsters, ferrets, tortoises, rabbits and other pets with them.
DFDS Seaways said that people with dogs will find it "far cheaper than kennels" to bring their furry friend along, which will also be "happier for everyone involved".
This provision is one of many initiatives that the ferry operator is launching this year to improve the travel experience for its customers, along with a selection of new themed breaks on ferry crossings to Amsterdam.
Special trips being arranged for the coming year include a St Patrick's Day mini cruise departing on March 17th and a Queen's Day break setting off from Newcastle on April 29th.
DFDS Seaways also operates ferry crossings in Scandinavia linking the capital cities of Oslo and Copenhagen.
