DFDS Seaways anticipates that there could be turbulent times ahead, as it faces new competition on its route between the UK and Sweden.
At present, customers can travel with the ferry operator between Gothenburg and Immingham, but a rival operator will now also be covering the route.
North Sea RoRo has said that it will offer a competitive alternative to the existing service, which can also provide greater flexibility for passengers from the UK.
Initially, it will provide three weekly services starting on January 24th 2012.
A DFDS statement says: "The opening of the route is expected to have a significant negative impact on the group's results for 2012.
"Based on the information available at present, the level of the impact cannot be further quantified."
The company also confirmed that it has put a number of measures in place so it can remain competitive in the current market.
