DFDS Seaways has added another accolade to its list, as it has been named the World's Leading Ferry Operator at the World Travel Awards.
The awards took place in Doha, Qatar on January 11th 2012, at which the ferry operator fought off competition from a number of rivals from all over the globe.
Votes were cast by more than 210,000 professionals from the travel industry, as well as members of the public in what are often described as the Oscars of the travel world.
John Crummie, passenger director for the DFDS Seaways North Sea Route, said the award recognises that the operator strives to make the experience of its customers as positive as possible.
"In addition to this award, we've been named Europe's Leading Long Sea Ferry Operator five years running, thanks to the company's ongoing commitment to quality and the hard work and dedication of our staff," he commented.
DFDS Seaways believes that its success at industry award ceremonies is down to a number of factors, including the quality of its on-board offering.
Passengers can make the most of everything from restaurants to bars, kids' clubs to live entertainment as they travel to their destinations.
Furthermore, the company prides itself on providing excellent customer services, as well as a comprehensive network of ferry routes that enable access to mainland Europe and Scandinavia.
In 2011, DFDS Seaways won the Best Ferry Operator category at the Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards.
The accolade was given in recognition of its collaboration with whale and dolphin conservation charity ORCA to help monitor wildlife in the seas of Europe.
Stephen House, head of product UK for DFDS Seaways, said: "As a company we felt it was important to engage people of all ages in thinking about the environment and to appreciate the wildlife on our own shores."
He added that the company has gone beyond its "statutory obligations" to make a difference to marine conservation.
