Those looking to book a ferry journey with
DFDS Seaways will be doing so with the finest ferry company on Earth.
This is not a mere platitude: It is official. The company picked up the World's Leading Ferry Operator title this week at the World Travel Awards in the Qatari capital Doha.
It was having to compete with not just rivals across Europe, but as far afield as New Zealand.
And naturally enough, DFDS is delighted, describing the event as the "oscars" of the travel industry. It attributed its success to its high level of customer service and the quality of facilities customers can enjoy while on board the ship.
The company runs its service in the English Channel, Baltic Sea and North Sea, offering access to and from France and the Low Countries as well as Scandinavia.
Passenger director of DFDS's English channel services Chris Newey commented: "This award is great news and recognition of our excellent customer service and value for money across all of our routes and we are delighted to receive this accolade."
He went on to praise the "company's ongoing commitment to quality and the hard work and dedication of our staff in providing an exceptional experience for our customers onboard and ashore," which recently earned it an endorsement from consumer watchdog Which?
Those using the services of DFDS might therefore be pleased by the statement of intent announced by the firm earlier this month, following the liquidation of
SeaFrance, to start a new Dover to Calais service in conjunction with
LD Lines to take the place of the one previously run by SeaFrance.
Involving two new ships flying the French flag, it will provide 300 new jobs. This new initiative follows an unsuccessful attempt to acquire some of the assets of SeaFrance in December last year, which the commercial court of Paris blocked.
With DFDS performing so well, many people could be delighted at the thought of the operator providing services on this cross-channel route.
