Demand for ferry crossings between Finland and Estonia has risen significantly over the past year as people look to take affordable holidays.
According to the latest figures released by Finnish ferry company
Viking Line, almost 800,000 people travelled on its vessels between the two countries in July alone.
This represents a ten per cent increase on last year's total, while the number of cars carried by the ferry line was also up by around nine per cent.
The data suggests that many more families opted to sail from Finland in order to holiday in the Baltic States this summer.
At the same time, Estonia's own
Tallink Group has similarly reported a 25 per cent increase in passenger numbers between Tallinn and Helsinki over the course of the summer, while demand for cruises around the Baltic still relatively strong.
These latest passenger figures come soon after
Viking Line reported that its recently-introduced XPRS ferry, which is the most environmentally-friendly high-speed ferry sailing across the Baltic, has helped boost demand for crossings between Finland and Estonia, with the vessel having also recently won a major design award for its exterior.
