Dover ferry port has revealed that it is expecting a "burst" of short-stay holidaymakers catching cross channel ferries for the Easter period.
The peak in travellers catching outbound ferries from Dover is expected on April 3rd and 4th, followed by an influx of returning passengers on April 18th and 19th.
Overall, traffic is expected to rise by around 30 per cent to some 300,000 people and 54,000 tourist cars during the holiday period.
The LD Lines Dover to Boulogne ferry crossing is proving one of the most popular options ahead of Easter, with the operator reporting that many of its sailings are steadily filling up.
Kate O'Hara, head of marketing at Dover ferry port, said: "The ferry operators report that bookings are being made later as travellers keep their options open in light of the economy and even the weather.
"However, many families are seeing ferry/drive holidays as an affordable alternative to flight packages and we do expect it to be busy."
The port saw a similar peak in activity during the February half-term period this year, with an increase in the number of people catching cross channel ferries for European skiing holidays.
