Dover ferry port has welcomed the announcement that
LD Lines will be introducing a conventional ship to its Dover to Boulogne ferry route in place of the high-speed catamaran.
The Norman Spirit will begin operations to Boulogne from early November, a change that will increase capacity for tourist traffic on the route considerably, according to
LD Lines.
Travellers will be able to choose from four return ferry crossings every day on the ship, which has the capacity to carry up to 1,850 passengers and 700 cars.
Kate O'Hara, head of marketing for Dover ferry port, said: "We are pleased to see additional freight and tourist capacity being introduced through the Port of Dover."
Christophe Santoni, managing director of
LD Lines, said the company has been "very encouraged" by the response to its Dover to Boulogne ferry service, which was launched in February this year.
The Norman Arrow, the operator's high-speed catamaran, will be transferred to the Portsmouth to Le Havre ferry route for a six-month season beginning in spring 2010.
