Dublin ferry port is of crucial importance to business in Ireland and will help to drive the country's competitiveness over the coming years, according to the chief executive of the company that operates the terminal.
Enda Connellan, chief executive of Dublin Port Company, said that the organisation can play a part in creating a sustainable and competitive future for Irish business and called on other industry members to try and do the same.
Speaking to the Leinster Society of Chartered Accountants earlier this month, Mr Connellan pointed out that Dublin ferry port already supports some 4,000 jobs.
He added: "These are real people, supporting real families, in the heart of Dublin city. Dublin Port will continue to be a dynamic force, feeding Irish commerce as it has done for centuries, located perfectly, close to its main market."
Dublin ferry port handles more than 1.3 million tourists a year as well as half of all Ireland's imports and exports.
P&O Ferries, Norfolkline,
Irish Ferries and Stena Line all operate ferry crossings to Dublin, linking the Irish port to Holyhead and Liverpool on the British mainland.
