Holidaymakers embarking on
ferries from Holyhead to Dublin will find the city offers plenty of striking Georgian architecture, an expert reveals.
The most impressive examples can generally be seen in the centre of the city, said publicity manager at Tourism Ireland John Lahiffe, although there are some great modern buildings as well.
"There is a great realisation that we shouldn't be knocking down the prized architecture of the Georgian city, which back in the 1950s they were starting to do," he commented.
As a result, many of the original Georgian squares are now still intact, while there are also a number of houses that are still open.
Mr Lahiffe recommends heading to the Fitzwilliam and Merrion Squares in the south of the city, where there are many buildings that show what the Georgian lifestyle was really like.
Ferries to Ireland depart from Holyhead several times a day, with services run by both
Irish Ferries and
Stena Line.
