Edinburgh prepares for cultural extravaganza | | | | 02 July 2009 | Operators providing ferries to Scotland and other parts of the UK could see a sharp increase in passenger numbers next month ahead of the famous Edinburgh International Festival.
This giant celebration of culture and creativity will be held at various venues around the Scottish capital from August 14th to September 6th.
Travellers interested in visiting the festival this year can catch ferries to Scotland with a number of operators, including Stena Line, P&O Ferries and Norfolkline.
Highlights of the Edinburgh Festival this year will include a series of productions at the King's Theatre focusing on work by Brian Friel, one of Ireland's greatest living playwrights, which will be presented by the Gate Theatre of Dublin.
There will also be plenty to interest music fans, including performances by the Philharmonia Orchestra, the European Union Baroque Orchestra and opera singer Bryn Terfel at Usher Hall.
People travelling from Ireland can catch ferries to Stranraer from Belfast with Stena Line and drive to Edinburgh, while European visitors can travel on the Zeebrugge to Rosyth ferry route operated by Norfolkline.
Holidaymakers also have the option of extending their tour of Scotland by catching ferries to Kirkwall and Lerwick from Aberdeen with NorthLink Ferries.
