Enjoy a Victorian Christmas on the Isle of Wight | | | | 09 October 2008 | People planning ferry crossings to the Isle of Wight in November may get the opportunity to experience a Victorian Christmas at a special event to be held in East Cowes.
On November 22nd and 23rd, Osborne House will offer a glimpse of what Christmas was like in the 19th century, featuring everything from traditional trees to Dickensian characters.
From 10am to 4pm on both days of the weekend, entertainment will be provided by costumed characters including Ebenezer Scrooge, who will take part in festivities around the Christmas tree.
A group of singing chimney sweeps will recite Christmas carols, while Queen Victoria herself will also put in an appearance to give visitors a lesson in etiquette.
When they are not enjoying the live entertainment on offer, holidaymakers can busy themselves at hoopla stalls, a coconut shy and other traditional amusements.
East Cowes is located on the northern coast of the Isle of Wight and is easily accessible via direct ferry crossings from Southampton with Red Funnel.
Wightlink also sails to the island, with services from Lymington to Yarmouth and from Portsmouth to Fishbourne and Ryde. |
