Families planning ferry breaks in Scotland over the coming weeks and months can look forward to some "magical winter experiences", according to the country's tourism organisation.
VisitScotland highlighted a number of special events and activities on offer to families, such as the opportunity to see the UK's only pair of polar bears at Highlands Wildlife Park in Kingussie.
Mercedes the polar bear was recently joined by her new friend Walker and the pair are living in one of the largest enclosures for these animals in Europe, complete with two viewing areas and drive-through access.
Families based in Northern Ireland can get to Scotland by taking
ferries from Belfast to Stranraer with
Stena Line, while
P&O Ferries provides
ferries from Larne to Cairnryan.
Visitors can head to the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre in Aviemore on any weekend in December until Christmas to see the UK's only free-roaming reindeer herd.
Also located in the region is the Cairngorm Sled Dog Centre, while the city of Edinburgh will be inviting guests to go ice skating and explore Christmas markets over the coming weeks.
Travellers interested in seeing Scotland's Northern Isles during their holiday can book ferry crossings to Orkney or Shetland with
Pentland Ferries or
NorthLink.
