The weak value of the pound against the euro is not likely to have a major effect on the popularity of skiing holidays in France and other European destinations, according to the Ski Club of Great Britain.
Resorts such as Val d'Isere and Tignes in France are expected to retain their popularity in 2009 owing to the fact that they are traditional favourites and are easy to access from the UK.
Carrie Hainge, brand and product manager for the Ski Club of Great Britain, pointed out that long flights to Canada or the US may not be an attractive option for family groups setting off on ski holidays.
Commenting on the currency issue, Ms Hainge said that it is possible to plan ahead and make savings to offset the low value of the pound.
"With the euro, it really is a way of making savings before you go out there and when [you] are actually out there in resorts," she commented.
Offering an example, Ms Hainge said: "Rather than having lunch at a restaurant, you can take a packed lunch and eat down in the resort, rather than on the mountain. Sometimes this can prove cheaper."
Another possible money-saving option, for family groups in particular, is taking a self-drive ski holiday to France, which could also prove more convenient and less stressful than flying.
