Eurostar to operate limited service this week | | | | 15 September 2008 | Many people planning Eurostar journeys for the coming week could be turning to ferry crossings in order to set off on their holiday after the train operator announced it will be operating a "very restricted timetable".
Eurostar said that it would be able to provide "very few services" up to September 21st following the fire last Thursday (September 11th) in the north tunnel running beneath the English Channel.
The company recommended that customers avoid travelling unless their journey is "absolutely essential".
People who do decide to use the Eurostar should check in as normal and will be boarded on the next available train, while those with non-essential journeys before September 21st can get a refund or rebook for a later date.
P&O Ferries is one of the companies that has adjusted its services to help mitigate the effect of the tunnel fire, fully manning its Dover to Calais ferry crossings over the weekend to provide maximum capacity.
Chris Laming, the ferry operator's communications director, said that there is capacity available to carry passengers who had planned to travel by Eurostar, but customers are advised to pre-book in order to guarantee their space. |
