Eurotunnel opens another tunnel section | | | | 29 September 2008 | Eurotunnel has announced the opening of another section of the Channel Tunnel, enabling a further increase in traffic following the fire that occurred on September 11th.
The opening of interval four in the Channel Tunnel follows the restart of services in the south tunnel on September 13th and the reintroduction of the first part of the north tunnel on September 22nd.
Five of the six intervals that make up the entire crossing are now operational.
Travellers using Eurotunnel services will now enjoy more regular journeys, with traffic leaving every 90 minutes rather than every two hours and capacity raised from 170 trains per day to 210 from October 1st.
Eurostar will see almost 100 per cent of normal capacity resumed, with between 55 and 58 paths available to the rail operator every day.
Passenger shuttle services will increase to 30 per day during the week and 52 per day at weekends, equating to approximately 41,000 cars crossing the English Channel every week. |
