Eurotunnel has announced a new agreement that is expected to provide benefits for passengers.
The company, which operates car shuttle services through the Channel Tunnel, has signed a new accord with the UK Border Agency (UKBA) that will provide more border control lanes.
Travellers will find that they are processed more rapidly at peak times as a result of the deal.
With up to eight border control lanes open, the UKBA can handle as many as 480 vehicles per hour during busy periods.
Jo Willacy, Eurotunnel's commercial director, said: "This service level agreement has meant that our customers now have a smoother passage through the UK Border Agency controls, which adds to the speed and ease of our shuttle service.
"The project to route traffic . in Coquelles through border controls before the passenger terminal building will further improve the ease of access to our shuttles in France."
Holidaymakers can also reach France via the
Dover to Calais ferry route with P&O Ferries and
SeaFrance, while
LD Lines and
Norfolkline offer
ferries from Dover to Boulogne and Dunkerque respectively.
