People planning to take ferries to Spain, France and other eurozone destinations this year could see the benefit of recent changes in the exchange rate.
Sarah Munro, head of Post Office Travel Money, said a recent recovery in the value of the pound against the euro could lead to some travellers having money left over at the end of their holiday.
She explained: "Sterling has gained almost ten per cent against the euro since its weakest point this year (March) and UK holidaymakers will have 2.4 per cent more euros for their pounds than a year ago."
Consumers hoping to take advantage of this trend can take
ferries from Portsmouth to Santander with
Brittany Ferries to explore northern Spain.
Ms Munro pointed out that Spain, along with its neighbour Portugal, will be one of the most affordable options for travellers from the UK this year following a recent fall in living costs.
"Recent research by Post Office Travel Money has . shown that living costs in the popular eurozone duo Portugal and Spain have dropped by around 40 per cent since last year, so those planning a trip to the Algarve or Costa del Sol this summer may find their pounds stretch further than they expected," she said.
Those who choose France as their holiday destination this year can take
ferries from Portsmouth to Le Havre with
LD Lines or travel on the
Dover to Calais ferry route with
SeaFrance.
