A recent development in the currency exchange market is expected to make eurozone breaks substantially cheaper for travellers from the UK this year.
The pound rose almost half a cent to 1.24 euros yesterday (June 29th), meaning it is now at its highest level against the single European currency since November 2008.
It has been predicted that a typical holiday in the Mediterranean could now be up to £700 cheaper than last year for families from the UK.
Travellers interested in visiting Spain can take
ferries from Portsmouth to Santander with
Brittany Ferries to get their break underway, while those heading to France can book
ferries from Portsmouth to Le Havre with
LD Lines.
The 19-month high recorded this week follows steady increases in the value of the pound against the euro in recent months.
Commenting on the trend, a spokesman for Abta, the travel industry association, said: "Holidaymakers are in for a very pleasant surprise when they find out just how far their hard-earned cash can go in many of our favourite foreign holiday spots."
Holidaymakers can also reach France via the
Dover to Calais ferry route with
SeaFrance or
P&O Ferries, while
Stena Line provides access to The Netherlands with its
ferries from Harwich to Hook of Holland.
