Travellers planning a cross channel ferry trip to France next month may want to schedule their holiday to fit in with the Nuit des Musees initiative.
This Europe-wide project sees a number of museums and galleries all over the continent open for free on a single evening, giving visitors the opportunity to browse through fascinating collections at their leisure.
May 16th will be the date for this year's event, with most institutions opening at dusk and continuing to welcome visitors until after midnight.
A number of museums that are easily accessible for people travelling on cross channel ferries will participate in the project, including the Musee des Beaux Arts in Lille, the Musee Malraux in Le Havre and the Musee d'Histoire de la Ville in St Malo.
Travellers planning to head further south will be offered free entry to the Louvre in Paris, Aix-en-Provence's Pavillon de Vendome and other institutions.
Travellers looking for a quick journey to France can catch
ferries from Dover to Calais with P&O Ferries or Seafrance.
Other options include Brittany Ferries' Portsmouth to St Malo ferry service and
ferries from Portsmouth to Le Havre operated by LD Lines.
