Travellers planning to take
ferries to France this year have been encouraged to consider sailing with
Norfolkline.
Carolyn Boyd, editor of France Magazine, told the Guardian that the company typically offers lower fares than
P&O Ferries and
SeaFrance on cross channel services.
Norfolkline provides regular
ferries from Dover to Dunkerque and operates the service using three "excellent modern ships", Ms Boyd said.
People looking for a wide range of routes to choose from were pointed towards
Brittany Ferries, which offers crossings to Caen, Cherbourg and St Malo from Portsmouth, as well as a Plymouth to Roscoff ferry service.
The magazine editor also commented on the food available to people travelling from the UK by ferry, pointing out that SeaFrance has "always taken pride in its restaurants" and has used celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli as a menu consultant in the past.
For those on a budget, Ms Boyd pointed out that bringing food along can be "a great money-saver".
The Guardian also sought the views of Mark Smith, of rail travel website The Man in Seat Sixty-One, who recommended
DFDS Seaways'
ferries from Newcastle to Amsterdam and Harwich to Esbjerg.
