Explore a new garden on Isle of Wight ferry breaks

There is a new attraction for people on Isle of Wight ferry breaks to visit this year following the recent opening of the Princess Beatrice Garden at Carisbrooke Castle.

Travellers can catch ferries from Portsmouth to Fishbourne with Wightlink and head to Newport in the centre of the island to visit Carisbrooke Castle.

Officially opening today (June 4th), the Princess Beatrice Garden features themed flower borders, clipped hedges, an orchard of fruit trees, a fountain and other elements.

It has been opened to celebrate the time that Princess Beatrice, the daughter of Queen Victoria, spent living in Carisbrooke Castle during her tenure as governor of the Isle of Wight from 1896 until 1944.

Designer Chris Beardshaw said: "It has been a great opportunity to design a garden in such a historic environment. Inspiration can be found wherever you look and hopefully the keen-eyed visitors will be able to spot where some of my ideas for the garden came from.

"Gardens bring places to life, they interest people and I'm positive this will add an extra dimension to Carisbrooke Castle."

In addition to its ferries from Portsmouth to Fishbourne, Wightlink operates crossings from Portsmouth to Ryde on the Isle of Wight and also offers ferries from Lymington to Yarmouth.
