Travellers who have an interest in foreign cultures should make sure they pay a visit to the Tropenmuseum during Amsterdam ferry breaks this year.
The institute is currently hosting exhibitions exploring various subjects, including the work of Indonesian artist Heri Dono.
People planning to take ferries to Amsterdam during the February half-term break will be able to see the exhibition, which is the first retrospective of Dono's work to be held in the Netherlands.
The showcase, which features paintings, installations and other pieces, will run until February 28th.
Also open at the Tropenmuseum is Art of Survival, an exhibition exploring the culture of the Maroon people of Suriname, who broke free and formed their own settlements after being taken from Africa and made to work as slaves.
At the Tropenmuseum Junior, visitors can see a show exploring the Chinese concept of 'qi' - an energy that is thought to be at the heart of all living things.
People interested in visiting the Dutch capital can take ferries to Amsterdam from Newcastle with
DFDS Seaways.
Stena Line offers ferries to Hook of Holland from Harwich, while P&O Ferries operates a Rotterdam ferry service from Hull.
