Taking the family away on holiday remains a priority for Britons, a new financial survey has indicated.
Insurer Aviva found in its Family Finances Report for the final quarter of 2011 that 21 per cent of people are making a summer holiday in 2012 a top priority for their spending.
At the same time, 39 per cent of people are looking to cut down on their spending, while 35 per cent want to reduce their debt levels.
Taking a trip by ferry to continental Europe might be one way to get away to somewhere interesting this year while not spending too much money.
Families may wish to look out for discount offers they could get on
ferries to France or other overseas destinations.
A recent survey by Sainsbury's showed that while Britons plan to spend a collective £22.1 billion on holidays this year, 13 per cent of those heading abroad plan to stay with family and friends, while 12 per cent will go for a self-catering break.
