The
Isle of Man Steam Packet Company has announced changes to its fares policy for the popular Manx Grand Prix racing event.
Citing a relative lack of interest in the service, the operator has confirmed that it will no longer offer racing fans the chance to book their ferry to the Isle of Man months in advance and then pay once they sail.
However, the facility will still be available for the thousands of sports fans who travel to the Isle of Man TT races each year, enabling them to take advantage of free ferries and spread the payment of their tickets over several months.
"It became apparent that less than five per cent of customers were making provisional 'deposit-only' bookings for the Manx Grand Prix before the following year's schedule and fares had been finalised," a spokesman for the Steam Packet Company told the Man Independent.
"As a result the facility was withdrawn," he said.
The operator recently confirmed that its Belfast services will be switched from the city's Donnegall Quay to the Albert Quay.
