Ferry travel could offer an alternative to flying this Christmas when thousands of British Airways (BA) customers are affected by planned cabin crew strikes.
The airline's workers voted in favour of industrial action, which is set to take place over the busy Christmas period from December 22nd to January 2nd.
Unions balloted their members on the strikes due to the ongoing restructuring of the airline.
Len McCluskey, assistant general secretary of the Unite union, said the decision to take industrial action had been made "with a heavy heart".
Meanwhile, BA criticised the move and said it showed "a lack of concern for our customers, our business and other employees".
Sea travel provides a number of alternatives for people planning to visit Europe, with the
Dover to Calais ferry route, which is served by P&O Ferries and
Seafrance, offering a quick and easy way to reach the continent.
Those intending to visit Spain can take ferries to Santander from Plymouth with
Brittany Ferries, while people travelling to Holland can use the Amsterdam and Hook of Holland ferry services provided by
DFDS Seaways and
Stena Line respectively.
