Ferries 'offer more peace of mind than planes' | | | | 11 August 2008 | One of the major advantages of ferry travel over flying is the peace of mind that passengers have regarding their luggage, a major company has claimed.
According to a recent report by a major insurance company, around 200,000 bags are lost every month at UK airports.
Irish Ferries claimed that passing through airports often causes stress and anxiety for travellers the opposite of what a holiday is supposed to do.
Head of passenger sales Declan Mescall said: "It's bad enough having to endure the long check-ins and queues, but then to spend further pointless hours waiting in vain at the carousel is guaranteed to drive stress levels off the scale."
He added: "Self-drive holidays by ferry are growing in popularity as holidaymakers take advantage of competitive pricing, short check-in times, space to relax and enjoy the journey, confident that their luggage will not disappear en route."
One of the most high-profile disasters for the aviation industry occurred earlier this year when the opening of Terminal 5 at Heathrow airport was dogged by technical problems, leading to thousands of people losing their luggage. |
