Ferries to France represent the most affordable option for people planning to travel to the European country from the UK, according to a spokesman for tourism development agency Atout France.
The representative pointed out that, as well as being affordable, ferry travel allows holidaymakers to take their own cars and bring extra items back with them without worrying about additional baggage charges.
People who choose to go by sea for their holiday in France this year can take
ferries from Portsmouth to Le Havre with
LD Lines or travel on the
Dover to Calais ferry route with
P&O Ferries or
Seafrance.
"Ferry companies allow tourists to travel with their own cars," the Atout France spokesman said.
"[They are] the most inexpensive deals to go to France with the whole family and even bring back
wine and cheese they may have bought in France."
The industry representative also highlighted the diversity of experiences on offer in the country, from skiing in the Alps to relaxing at a seaside resort or exploring vineyards.
Travellers planning to start their French adventure in the north-west can take a ferry from Plymouth to Roscoff with
Brittany Ferries or use
Condor Ferries' Poole to St Malo ferry service.
