Ferry connection Swinoujscie-Trelleborg to open
Tomorrow, January 5, two Polish ferries will start sailings on the new ferry service between Swinoujscie in Poland and Trelleborg in Sweden. Gryf is owned by Polsteam and Galileusz by Euroafrica Shipping Lines, but Unity Line will operate both.
According to Euroafrica's managing director Pawel Porzycki, the decision tomove some of the capacity from Ystad to Trelleborg is an answer to marketexpectations.
Customers now have the possibility to choose alternative ways to Southern Europe from the same port. The new ferries, which will be built by SSN and delivered in a couple of years, are probably also too large for Ystad.
The Swinoujscie-Ystad service has grown continuously. In 2005, the ferries carried 124,000 lorries. This grew to 142,000 in 2006 when the service was operated with six ferries, five belonging to Unity Lines and one to Polferries.
