Ferry crossings 'good value for families' | | | | 04 September 2008 | ferry crossings offer "incredibly good value", particularly for people travelling with their families, according to the Passenger Shipping Association (PSA).
William Gibbons, director of the PSA, said that families can make their money go even further if they are prepared to travel by ferry outside the busiest periods.
He also commented on the general state of the tourism industry at the moment, suggesting that the conditions in the British economy are in the favour of ferry travel.
"Generally with the economic downturn people will perhaps take less short breaks, which is where the low cost airlines have been very effective," Mr Gibbons said.
"People are concentrating more on their main summer holidays and we think people are holidaying closer to home and ferry travel is geared to the near continent and to Ireland et cetera."
According to a study carried out by IRN Research for the PSA, the number of British people making use of ferry crossings in the year to February 2008 was over 3.5 million, 3.5 per cent more than in the 12 months to February 2007. |
