Britons returning from France by ferry this weekend may be delayed due to a one-day strike by port staff.
More than 470 people employed by the UK Border Agency (UKBA) are expected to take industrial action on Saturday over proposals to slash allowances.
As a result, many British residents returning to the country by a
Calais to Dover ferry could face long delays at immigration control points.
The workers, who are members of the Public and Commercial Services Union, are protesting against plans to cut overnight allowance by one-third and scrap the day allowances altogether.
Mark Serwotka, general secretary of the union, said: "It is disgraceful that the average staff member stands to lose over £500 a month because of imposed changes by the UKBA."
He added: "With support for strike action running high, we would urge the UKBA to reconsider its plans and recognise the important role that UKBA staff play."
