Ferry service update 22nd April - 12:45

As air travel returns gradually back to normal tens of thousands of travellers are still stranded abroad and are utilising ferry services an alternative method home.

Airlines face a mammoth logistical operation in order to return service back to normal, and many more flights are having to be cancelled or delayed due to the backlog and planes being in the wrong location. Calais ferry port is once again bracing itself for another day of long queues, with thousands more passengers expected to arrive today. The UK's Maritime and Coastguard Agency has allowed ferries operating out of Dover to continue to carry an extra 10% of foot passengers on daytime sailings until the end of this week. Below is the latest information aferry.co.uk has about passenger ferry services in and out of the UK.

SeaFrance: Once again, due to the overwhelming demand SeaFrance are offering a first-come first-served service for foot passengers at Calais. Those travelling with vehicles to Dover can pre-book on aferry.co.uk as normal.

P&O Ferries: P&O have space between Calais and Dover; foot passengers will be accommodated on the next available ferry, space is limited and not guaranteed. All other P&O routes can be booked on aferry.co.uk as normal.

LD Lines: On LD's Portsmouth-Le Havre ferry route there is space for foot passengers and car passengers today, tomorrow (Friday 23rd) and into the weekend on both the conventional and fast-ferry services. There is space on LD's routes between Dover and Boulogne and between Ramsgate and Ostend.

Norfolkline: To assist stranded passengers at Dunkerque, Norfolkline are once again putting on special coaches for foot passengers which are not normally accepted on this route on a limited number of crossings today (Thursday 22nd). Norfolkline have no cycle passenger space available from Dunkerque today, but do have space for those travelling with motorised vehicles.

Brittany Ferries: There no space on Brittany's ferries between Santander and the UK until the 29th April. Brittany does have foot passenger space and limited vehicle space on their routes from Caen, Cherbourg and St Malo to Portsmouth and between Roscoff and Plymouth.

Transmanche: Transmanche have space for both foot passengers and car passengers on their route between Dieppe and Newhaven today and into the weekend.

DFDS Seaways: Services on the DFDS Harwich-Esbjerg ferry route are full until next Wednesday from Harwich and next Tuesday from Esbjerg. The Newcastle-Amsterdam service has no space until Saturday, and crossings from Amsterdam Ijmuiden are fully booked until Sunday, but there is good availability in both directions from then onwards.

Stena Line: Availability remains tight for the next few days, but there is some space available on many crossings, bookable on aferry.co.uk.
