Just eight per cent of Britons feel that ferry travel is stressful compared to 44 per cent who feel similarly about airline travel.
That is according to a new study by
Norfolkline Ferries, which found that stress experienced prior to going on holiday can steal up to two days from the actual vacation.
The survey, carried out on some 5,300 people, also found that bad weather was the top reason for stressing out parents as many did not know how to entertain their children.
Psychologist Donna Dawson, who was approached by the ferry company to comment on the survey, advised: "Anything that diminishes pre-holiday stress is to be welcomed.
"This could include a more leisurely arrival by ferry, where there is more room to move around and stretch out, and where people can relax or entertain themselves as they choose."
Norfolkline Ferries offers travel on several routes including a Dover to Dunkerque ferry service.
