Ferry travel 'set to make a comeback' in Ireland | | | | 04 August 2008 | ferry travel is said to be becoming increasingly popular in Ireland , with travel writer Nik Quaife claiming the method of transport is now "in vogue".
In an article written for the Irish Independent, Mr Quaife said that taking a ferry rather than a flight from the UK to Dublin had given him a new perspective on Ireland as a whole.
He described taking a boat rather than a plane as an "invigorating and romantic way to travel" and that being outside "stimulates the senses".
Writing about the benefits of ferry travel, Mr Quaife added that there was much more to do onboard - particular for families, with play areas, cinemas and slot machines.
"Travelling by boat is definitely relaxing and lets you see a destination in a new way; it's also easier on the ozone layer and the blood pressure," he wrote.
He added that as the world becomes more environmentally aware, "ferry travel is expected to rise in popularity".
Leading ferry companies Stena Line and Irish Ferries both offer routes from Holyhead in the UK to Dublin. |
